Just to let you know: “Maui” is the Hawai’ian word for sauna. The Finns got the credit, but Maui walks the walk. 100% humidity, 85 degrees F.
Asphalt was still puddled from rain when we arrived this morning. Debarkation was delayed half an hour because shore security was not in place. We left the ship and walked half a mile between chain link fences through a restricted area, only to open out into a
Parking lot.
Beyond the parking lot was a shopping mall. Meanwhile the real Maui huddled in the distance.
Oh but the surf is spectacular! I see why Maui’s north shore is so famous. And this is a calm day.
There are two sets of surf. A small one, a bunny slope, breaks close to shore. The hurking monsters break over out further. Constantly.
The peaks today are in the clouds, but half a dozen fumeroles lay at their feet. Fumeroles are sort of baby volcanoes peripheral to the main event.
There is a pedometer on my phone. It says I’m averaging over two miles a day. But this morning, although I walked a good three miles, I forgot my phone, so it thinks I stayed home. Sigh
